Adolph Pfister's Store

The Germania Verein was founded in 1856, incorporated in 1865. Members met above Pfister's store, located at the southeast corner of Santa Clara and First Streets, across from the Opera House; rooms were open every Thursday. Members had a well-staked library and a reading room. On the last Sunday of each month a play or a concert was being performed.

In 1878 the address is given as s s Santa Clara Street, between Second and Third Streets.

In 1881-82 the San Jose directory shows the Germania Verein as being located at 368 Santa Clara Street. (I believe it is the same address as above.
